Ortiz returned to the clubhouse to some 40 congratulatory messages

"I wish he could celebrate," manager Bobby Valentine said. "David is a team guy and he knows it's a great individual accomplishment, we all know that. But it's tarnished."

Still, Ortiz returned to the clubhouse to some 40 congratulatory messages.

"And my phone is still blowing up," he said. "I know at some point in my career when I'm not playing baseball I might look at it from the outside and be like, 'Whoa, I guess I had a good career.' I look at it right now as just another home run."

Moss homered leading off the second for his 10th of the season, giving the A's longballs in 15 straight games — most for the club since doing so in 17 in a row from April 12-May 1, 2002.

Connecticut, which had a four-year score of 889

Connecticut, which had a four-year score of 889 and a two-year score of 902, must replace four hours of practice time with academic activities each week.

Also banned were Championship Subdivision teams Hampton, North Carolina A&T and Texas Southern in football; Central Connecticut State in men's soccer; and Northern Colorado in men's wrestling.

In all, 54 teams fell below the 900 mark with roughly 80 percent (43) of them coming from what the NCAA defines as limited-resource schools.

The Northern Irishman, who had missed the cut in his last three tournaments

Rory McIlroy showed exquisite timing as he birdied three of his last four holes to surge into a one-stroke lead at the halfway mark of the St Jude Classic at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee on Friday.

The Northern Irishman, who had missed the cut in his last three tournaments, looks to be getting his game on track just in time for the defense of his U.S. Open crown in San Francisco next week with a five-under-par 65 for a total of 133.

"It's nice to see my name on that part of the leaderboard," the 23-year-old McIlroy told reporters. "It's not nice when you're struggling to make the cut on a Friday afternoon.

"It's nice to be through to the weekend, obviously. It's obviously even nicer to be leading and have a great chance."

The Orlando Magic are going to the playoffs again

The Orlando Magic are going to the playoffs again, but coach Stan Van Gundy is preparing for a postseason without Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkoglu - and that list may grow.

The Magic may be without Glen Davis on Monday night when they try to continue their dominance of the visiting Philadelphia 76ers.

Orlando (35-25) is tied with Atlanta for fifth in the Eastern Conference, and clinched its sixth consecutive trip to the playoffs after beating Cleveland 100-84 on Sunday.

It was also the fourth straight game for the Magic without Howard, out indefinitely with a herniated disk in his back, and fifth without Turkoglu (facial fracture).

Van Gundy is planning to be without his All-Star center and starting forward for the rest of the season and the playoffs.

The Cardinal refused to let Griner beat them

The Cardinal refused to let Griner beat them, collapsing on her in the paint. The strategy worked for the first 20 minutes before the other Lady Bears started making shots.
Trailing 31-29 early in the second half, Baylor went on an 11-1 run keyed by Jordan Madden. The junior guard had an acrobatic three-point play and then a layup that made it 40-32. Griner followed with her only basket of the half, hitting a tough baseline turnaround that capped the burst.

The game itself was in Princeton’s control

As team captain Davis spoke, fellow senior Patrick Saunders was shaking his head.
"It was an interesting game coming in,'' he said. "I don't think we have much love for either team. It's kind of a tough thing to swallow, putting Harvard into the tournament. They're a good team, but I think they would have said the same thing about us.''
The game itself was in Princeton's control, the only tie being at 2-2. The Tigers did a great job of keeping both teams in the game, however, mixing up nice interior passing and some early threes with some atrocious ball-handling.
